Opposed at the outset – almost irreconcilably – here are two visions of what represents a sanctuary. That is what Sol Lang and Éric Dupuis are proposing with their photographic essay entitled “Sanctuaries”.

In the figurative sense, the word sanctuary means “protected, closed, secret, sacred place”. This is without a doubt what these two artists want to express.

On one side Éric Dupuis placed his camera at the heart of places that are without question perceived as sanctuaries – churches.

At the other extreme, Sol Lang brings us to a place that seems hostile at first glance. Nevertheless, his incursion of this universe is yet just as much in line with the figurative sense given by the dictionary which invites us to modify our perception and again appreciate a sense of sanctuary.

Two intimate visions with radically different aesthetics that merge through their perception of place.
